10 Reasons why Florence is my favorite European City

Back in 2012 I had the chance to study abroad in Florence, Italy. Having visited the city before I knew how gorgeous it was and how much I would love it, but living that summer in this beautiful renaissance city made me completely fall in love with it.

There are a million reasons why, here are my top ten reasons why Florence will forever be my favorite European city:

1. Food

I mean PASTA, GELATO, PASTA, GELATO everyday! Also cheese, prosciutto, risotto, pizza, etc. The list can go on and on Italian food is simply the best.

2. Wine

Tuscany is one of the biggest wine producers in the world. Many enotecas in Florence serve a great variety of wines. Great for pairing with different foods!

3. Art

The Uffizi Gallery houses some of the most important art works like The Birth of Venus. And of course, the David by Michelangelo can’t be missed.

4. Architecture

For this one the Duomo says it all, but also Ponte Vecchio, and every single building in the city.

5. The Italian Accent

Every time I hear someone talk to me in Italian or with an Italian accent I transport myself and everything is suddenly perfect.

6. Shopping

The leather markets! It is very common to find a lot of stands around the streets of Florence with many types of vendor from purses to shoes and pashminas.

7. Food Markets

San Lorenzo Central Market is one of the most important in the city, but there are many and they all sell great quality ingredients like freshly made cheese, curated ham and local oils.

8. Gardens

In a city that you might think there isn’t much nature around, the Boboli Gardens will leave you breathless with its beauty.

9. Neighboring Towns

Because of its location, Florence is surrounded by beautiful towns that are just a short train or bus ride away.

10. History

The Renaissance took place in Florence; everywhere you walk you will see a little piece of history around.
